Love Lessons 101 - Five Romance Tips For The Guys

By Marc Sandford

Romance can be defined in many ways, but the best ones refer to a feeling of excitement associated with love. This excitement can either be very intense or playful. If romance comes easy to you, you've got it within you to keep your relationship alive for a very long time. If it doesn't, it can be learned.

1.) Hundreds of years ago, love letters and love poetry were an artistic production. They are unfashionable now, but things old fashioned and romance seem to go together. Buy a book of love poems, pick one poem and alter it so that she'll think that it was penned by you.

Place it inside of a box of pricey chocolates and gift wrap it.

2.) Do something totally out of the blue. Women love being taken by surprise. The thing about surprises is that you're doing something that you ordinarily would not do.

It may mean leaving your comfort zone some. If you are the stay-at-home type then spend the night (or weekend) on a well thought out romantic excursion. Planning in advance is important because no plan means that you will just fall back on old routines and habits.

Doing the usual old stuff is not what a surprise is about. There couldn't be anything more unromantic than asking her: "Well? now what?"

If you're the pragmatic, unromantic type, this can be especially hard to do. However, you have a major advantage over the more practiced romantics: any romantic gesture coming from you will be huge to her since it's the least likely thing that she's expecting from you. The element of surprise is in your court.

3.) If her work week was very stressful, then get up early on Saturday morning and cook breakfast for her. Carry it to her bedside on a fancy tray for some breakfast in bed. Depending on her level of exhaustion, you may want to allow her some quiet time reading her favorite book or magazine.

4.) A simple fireplace has great potential for an evening of romance particularly in the wintertime. A cheery fire along with champagne, some wine, a cozy love seat or shaggy rug, and dim lighting all create the perfect atmosphere for romance. This works even better if you're at a romantic getaway like a skiing lodge, rustic cabin, or an elegant hotel.

5.) When it comes to the romantic gesture, you don't always have to hit a home run. Grand and noble gestures are effective but can be hard to keep up every day. This is where lots of small gestures come into play.

Women value the small gestures and the large gestures equally. So keep up with the compliments, kisses, caresses and expressions of appreciation. - 15615
